First of all, before I get into this review. I want everyone to know that this IS a remake/re-imagining. Having Robert Englund play Freddy again would make it the opposite of that so please let that go. Also, you have to realize that since its a re-imagining they are going at the film different. The two films can never compare because its not a shot for shot remake (like ive heard many ill informed people say). The two Freddy’s can’t compare either because Robert isn’t playing Freddy. And what I would also like to stress is that even though Robert iconicized Freddy and he will always be THE Freddy he also made Freddy more of a joke in later versions so dont be so quick to say you prefer quantity over quality.
Second of all, You know what really grinds my gears? I really really hate people at a movie theater. its not just black people anymore. Everyone just needs to fuckin talk and put their two cents in. Talk about that shit when you get out the theater. I did! I also payed 10.75 for a movie ticket at midnight so the least you can do is shut your damn gobs. The people cant hear you bitch, its a screen! No matter how much you yell or tell them. And dont asked stupid ass questions to your stupid ass friends loudly “whats insomnia” because if shes giving you an answer thats longer than a book she probably doesnt know either. Damn! And dont critique how its not like the orignal….ITS A RE-IMAGINING! Ever wonder why your peanut butter and jelly sandwich taste differently without the same peanut butter and jelly you’ve been using? BECAUSE ITS NOT THE SAME THING YOU DUMB WHORES! Gah, Really!?
Now, diggin in a little bit more.
*****possible spoiler Alerts*****
A Nightmare on Elm Street was a great flick. It took a way different approach to the series. Freddy is back people, and more maniacal and badass than ever.
I give Jackie full props for his portrayal of our favorite Springwood slasher.I’ll be the first to admit that when I heard Robert wasnt playing freddy I was crushed but then I realized if he did it wouldnt be a remake, it would be a sequel and I kinda want to see how creative we’ve gotten in 20+ years as far as moving making goes.
We’ve gotten very far.
Now as far as Freddys voice goes. Let that shit go to because he isn’t Robert Englund. Would you rather see Jackie Earle Haley Pretend to be Robert Englund or see him pretend to be Freddy?
He’s so much more darker. And he’s letting these kids know that he’s pissed. What we know about Freddy is now 86’s in favor of a slightly altered story which isnt a bad thing. He is who he is because of what he did to those children but we get to learn a tiny bit more about him which is something we dont get to know alot about in the original.
Nancy, is a completly different Nancy. We all love Heather Lagenkamp but Mara is not her so expect a slightly more emo Nancy. Something interesting in this movie is that her father is missing. Which i didnt even notice until a friend told me once the movie ended. He played an important role in the original and that role is filled now completely by her still annoying mother,
The kills in this film are new. We know Kris gets the same come up-ins as the first but in a slightly different way but everyone else gets it a different
way. Even Freddy and Nancy’s mom.
Nancy’s moms death was my favorite by the way.
Anyways, I dont want to tell you its like he original because honestly, its not. But im not reviewing the 1964 classic im reviewing the new 2010 re-imagining. Be open to change because its not always bad. The problem with most fans of movies are that they cant grasp change and thats sad because Im a HUGE NOES fan….HUGE and I felt this same way at the beginning.
1) Who the fuck is Jackie Earle Haley? Rorschach? The fuck?
2) his make-up looks soooo gay
3)ugh. his voice, lame
4) Roberts not Freddy!?
all those and many more reasons to hate on something before you see it are stupid because if you expect it to be bad then it will be.
I went in to this more excited than the world and I left satisfied.
So, if youre open to a new take on a classic film then go see it. But if youre expecting to see long arms Freddy and Johnny Depp Bed blood then dont go because you wont be pleased
Heres to hoping for a sequel!
